Shaker Furniture Woodworking Plans
Shaker furniture is widely admired for its simplicity,
innovative joinery, quality, and functionality. Shaker
designs were inspired by the ascetic religious beliefs
of the Society. Shakers made furniture for their own
use, as well as for sale to the general public.

Shaker Trestle Table Woodworking Plan
With the popularity of kitchen islands, peninsulas, and
breakfast tables in mind, we designed this multipurpose
project. You can use it for morning coffee, meals, or
anything you like. At 36" tall, the table’s just right
for standard 24" stools. And the 40"-long tabletop
allows plenty of room for one person on each side.
Adapted from an early Shaker-design, this handsome piece
looks equally at home in both Contemporary and Country
decors. If you’d prefer to modify this design to serve
as a four-person dining table, we provide you with a
sizing guide.

Shaker Side Table Woodworking
Plan
When you think of Shaker furniture, the word “stylish”
may not pop immediately into your head. But have a look
at this little trestle table. The elegantly contoured
feet and frame typify the stylistic touches that often
accompany the fabled Shaker simplicity. And speaking of
simplicity, we’ve streamlined construction by
standardizing the stock thicknesses. We’ve also beefed
up the stretcher width to improve the table’s stability.
Measures 28-7/8" wide, 17-1/2" deep, 31-1/2" tall.

Shaker Oval Carrier Woodworking Plan
An adaptation of oval carriers constructed by Shaker
craftsmen of yesteryear, our design lends itself to a
lifetime of around-the-home usefulness. And like the
original Shaker carriers, our version features pleasing,
simple lines and graceful fingers with tacked-and-pegged
joinery.
Carrier measures aproximately 9" tall.

Shaker
Cupboard Woodworking Plan
The Shakers viewed veneers as “deceitful,” and declared
that “whatever is fashioned, let it be plain and
simple.” They used solid maple extensively and
particularly admired bird’s-eye maple. These resourceful
folks also developed the first tongue-and-groove and
splining machines to facilitate joining solid woods. The
design shown at left follows the Shaker philosophy quite
closely.
This cupboard consists of two basic assemblies—the base
cabinet and the upper case. And though we tell you how
to build each separately, you may want to glue up the
panels for both units at the same time. By doing it this
way, you’ll have less downtime—the panels will be ready
for machining when you are. Note also that the ends,
shelves, and top of both the base cabinet and upper case
are made up for width in the same way, which simplifies
construction greatly.
The cupboard stands approximately 78" tall by 37" wide
and 18-1/2" deep
